Property site reports increase in rents
There has been an average jump of 9% in rent levels across the country, according to the latest report from property website Daft.ie.
The report shows that in Dublin, the annual increase is even higher at 14%.
Daft's latest quarterly rental report shows that rents rose in every county outside Connacht and Ulster.
In the cities, Dublin had the biggest jump, Cork was up 6.2%, Galway and Limerick were both up more than 5%, and Waterford jumped 1.4%.
The report says the average rent in Ireland is now €888 - that is up €69 from the lowest point in 2011.
Four thousand properties are available for rent, which is down from 11,000 two years ago.
Meanwhile, Daft is defending its decision to keep a function on its website which allows landlords to refuse to let properties to tenants using rent allowance, despite a request from the Department of Social Protection in recent weeks.
The website says they are making other website changes to "educate" landlords more about the issue.
