Public make 35,000 submissions on pylon proposal

Members of the public made 35,000 submissions during the first public consultations on the €500m Gridlink electricity project.

If it is granted planning, the project would see the erection of pylons carrying overground electricity cables from Cork through the Suir Valley in Tipperary and Waterford and into South Leinster.

Confirming the number of public submissions, the Energy Minister Pat Rabbitte said he has asked Eirgrid to report back as soon as possible on the issues raised by the public.

Minister Rabbitte said he expects to be able to brief the Dáil on the matter before the end of the month.
