Minister admits coalition tensions on abortion issue
Health Minister James Reilly admits coalition tensions remain - even within the two individual parties - on the issue of abortion.
Minister Reilly's denied a report that splits are so pronounced that an update from him on legislation has been taken off the Cabinet agenda tomorrow.
It had been suggested the two parties were so divided on how to deal with suicide as a grounds for termination that a memo would not be brought to Government tomorrow.
Minister Reilly said that he is confident the legislation will be in place as planned by the summer, however.
"There's tensions within the parties on this," he said.
"We all know how divisive this issue is. I mean, it's divided households in the past.
"I think the matter has been conducted in a very sensible way to date and I'd like it to continue that way.
"I look forward to expediting the heads of the Bill as quickly as possible and getting the legislation through the Dáil as quickly as possible."
