Drink driving 'still a concern'
Assistant Garda Commissioner John O'Mahoney said today though drink driving is not as big a problem now as it was five years ago, it is still a concern.
Gardaí says there'll be a visible presence on the roads this weekend to make sure this is a safe May Bank Holiday.
A total of 58 people have been killed on Irish roads so far this year.
Assistant Commissioner O'Mahoney said welcomed the fact that drink driving offences are down significantly in the last five years, however.
"There were almost 20,000 convictions for people driving under the influence of alcohol
"That has steadily decreased over the last five years with the figures coming in at around 10,500 in 2011 so that's a significant decrease, but still 10,000, still a concern for us."
