Mayo boss returns to training

Mayo football manager Mickey Moran is expected back at training tomorrow night, having walked out on last night's session in a row over club fixtures.

The Derry native reckons that a heavy summer schedule for Mayo's clubs, with the county senior league and championship and Under-21 championship on-going, is disrupting his panel's preparations for their All-Ireland quarter-final next month.

It is understood that Moran is annoyed that a senior championship game between Crossmolina and Breaffy has been fixed for next Sunday, instead of Saturday - meaning that players from those clubs would miss out on training with the county panel.

Mayo, who picked up the Connacht SFC title recently, are due to face either Laois or Offaly at Croke Park on Sunday, August 13.

Moran refused to take charge of last night's training session in Castlebar, with his assistant John Morrison also withdrawing his services.

Swinford-based selector Kieran Gallagher took the players through their paces instead, and the row, according to sources close to the team, has now been resolved.
