A teenage boy, who is charged with false imprisonment and assault of a 14-year-old boy that was allegedly tied up and threatened with violence, has been remanded on bail by Dublin Children’s Court.
The victim’s brother had been ordered to go home to get €50 to secure his release, Judge Brian Sheridan heard.
It was alleged the 16-year-old boy, then aged 15, allegedly tied the younger boy up with tape after demanding €50 from him.
The defendant is charged with assaulting the schoolboy and falsely imprisoning him on August 30 last year in Firhouse, south Dublin.
In an outline of the allegations Garda Kieron O’Neill of Rathfarnham station, told the court that it was alleged the teenager and an accomplice approached the 14-year-old and demanded money from him or his bicycle would be taken.
The younger boy, who had been with his brother, was then taken to a green at the back of a school and threatened with violence.
He was tied up with tape and his brother told to go home and get the E50 which would lead to him being released.
Garda O’Neill said the boy went home but came back with his father at which the defendant and his accomplice fled.
Garda O’Neill added that the 14-year-old boy was extremely traumatised in the following weeks but has since made a recovery.
He did not sustained physical harm; however, Judge Sheridan said that he may have had psychological injuries as a result of the incident.
Judge Sheridan remanded the defendant on bail to appear again on November 7 next when he is to indicate a plea.
