Soccer

Aston Villa were 4-1 winners against West Ham in today's only Premier League match.

A brace from Douglas Luiz and a goal each for Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey secured the three points for Unai (Oon-eye) Emery's side.

Jarrod Bowen pulled one back for the east Londoners at Villa Park.

It means Aston Villa now move into fifth place in the table, while West Ham remain in ninth.

Football fans continue to pay their respects to Sir Bobby Charlton - with many heading to Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium.

Scarves and flowers have been laid next to his statue at the ground - which also features George Best and Denis Law.

A book of condolence for the 1966 World Cup winner has been opened at Old Trafford.

Katie McCabe's double has given Arsenal a 2-1 win over Bristol City in the Women's Super League this evening.

That result leaves the Gunner's 3 points off the top of the table in 7th place.

Earlier, West Ham scored deep into stoppage time to rescue a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

Riko Ueki equalised in the 95th minute to salvage a point for the hosts. Elsewhere, Chelsea continued their unbeaten start to the season after beating Brighton 4-2.

Manchester United are also yet to record a loss in the campaign with their 5-nil victory at Everton

Celtic have regained their 7 point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.

They came away from Hearts with a 4-1 win to extend their lead over rivals Rangers.

Matt O'Riley scored his 5th goal in 8 games for the defending champions who remain unbeaten in the league this season.

Here at home, Drogheda United are looking to record a second win over the reigning champions in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division this evening.

They travel to Shamrock Rovers aiming to repeat their 2-1 victory over the Hoops in May.

Stephen Bradley's side know a win today would give them the opportunity to win the title against rivals St Pats on Friday night.

Kick off in Tallaght Stadium is at 8pm.

Elsewhere, the bottom two sides are meeting at the UCD Bowl as the Students play host to Cork City.

It's into added time there and it's UCD 0 Cork 2 - Joe O'Brien Whitmarsh and Ruari Keating with the goals.

Rugby

Leinster kicked off their United Rugby Championship season with a loss this afternoon. They were beaten by the Glasgow Warriors by 43 points to 25 in Scotland.

They were the only Irish side to lose on the opening weekend with victories for Munster, Ulster and Connacht yesterday.

The only other game of the day finished in a big win for the Bulls as they got past the Scarlets 63-21.

GAA

There are county finals in both hurling and football being played around the country on Sunday.

Among the standout games is the Dublin Senior Football decided between All-Ireland champions Kilmacud Crokes and Ballyboden St Enda's.

There are also two fixtures being played in the Leinster Club Senior Football Championship, with Offaly's Tullamore meeting Summerhill from Meath, while St Loman's from Westmeath host Wexford's Shelmaliers in Mullingar.

Formula One

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc is on pole for today's US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.

McLaren's Lando Norris joins him on the front row, followed by Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton in third and Leclerc's teammate Carlow Sainz in fourth.

Further back in sixth is Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who, despite a frustrating qualifying session on Friday, took the win in Saturday's sprint race.

Today's race gets underway at 8pm Irish time.

Golf

Tom McKibben is three-under-par through 14 holes of his final round of the Andalucia Masters.

That leaves the Northern Irishman six-under all round and in a tie for 40th, 10 shots off the lead that's held by Matthias Schmid of Germany.
