Sporting Fingal 4 Bray Wanderers 2
Eamon Zayed broke the hearts of his former club with two clinically taken goals as First Division Sporting breezed into the final of the FAI Ford Cup with this facile win at Morton Stadium.
Liam Buckley’s side will now meet Sligo Rovers in the decider at Tallaght Stadium on November 22, just two years after coming into the league.
Incredibly, this semi-final was all but over inside the opening 21 minutes as Sporting blitzed an abject Bray to run up a 3-0 lead.
The opener came on four minutes from a terrific flowing move. Robert Bayly’s diagonal ball was flicked on to to Alan Kirby by Conan Byrne and his cross to the back post was confidently sidefooted home by Zayed.
Zayed made it 2-0 seven minutes later when finally shooting home after a right scramble in the visitors’ box after they failed to clear Byrne’s free-kick.
The game then effectively over on 21 minutes as Sporting added a third goal.
Byrne’s throw was controlled and laid off by Zayed to Bayly who crossed for Kirby to shoot home unmarked from ten yards.
Bray made changes at the break and got a goal back on 74 minutes to make a match of it late on.
Substitute Gareth Whelan fouled Chris Shields some 25 yards out and Gary McCabe scored with a superbly struck free-kick, lifting the ball over the wall and past the flat-footed Chris Konopka.
Bray evening’s was compounded by the straight red card given to defender Chris Deans on 81 minutes for a late lunge on Eric Foley.
Bayly then put the icing on the cake with Sporting’s delightful fourth goal on 84 minutes, lobbing home first time after working a one-two with Foley.
Bray got a second consolation goal a minute into stoppage time when Whelan misjudged a long ball forward to allow substitute John Mulroy run in and cut past Konopka to tap the ball home.
