UL Bohemians will take in the Christmas break in third place in the Division One table after this impressive dismissal of Dolphin.

The UL Bowl saw plenty of excitement with winger Lupeni Siale, who is a New Zealand-Tongan, scoring two of the hosts' five tries.

Dolphin were 22-0 behind at half-time. Siale (2) and Munster's Barry Murphy both touched down.

The Corkmen hit back with a try from prop Christy Condon before late efforts from Bohs scrum half Chris Delooze and flanker Tommy O'Donnell.

Played in improved conditions to recent weeks, Bohs let their rugby do the talking as they maintained their run of not having lost an AIB League game at home for over a year.

They shot into the lead in the third-minute when a straightforward lineout and a string of passes led to Siale going over in the left corner. Lawlor, who was in excellent form throughout, landed the conversion.

Dolphin put up a stubborn resistance and were unfortunate not to score in the first half, with out-half Barry Keeshan trying his best to eek out some decent field position for the visitors.

Nonetheless, a lovely break in midfield from former captain Coleman Finn put his centre partner Murphy over under the posts. Lawlor added the extras and also fired over a penalty for a 17-0 score-line.

Dolphin then had a decent spell of pressure but Siale, who was named man-of-the-match, then struck for his second try in first half injury-time. Lawlor missed the conversion and it was not until the 70th-minute that Dolphin could manage to break the deadlock.

Prop Condon rumbled over from close range for his second try of the campaign, yet Bohs, for whom forwards Kieran Essex and David Foley were in top form, still had more in the tank and the bonus point was secured when Delooze and O'Donnell both got over in the closing six minutes.

Ballymena 22 St. Mary's College 34, Eaton Park

Scorers: Ballymena: Tries: Penalty try, Simon Shawe, Hugh Mitchell; Cons: Craig Woods 2; Pen: Craig Woods St. Mary's College: Tries: Frank Lynch, Juan Gomez, Matt D'Arcy, Matt Crockett; Cons: Frank Lynch 4; Pen: Frank Lynch; Drop: Frank Lynch

Out-half Frank Lynch helped himself to 19 points as St. Mary's College continued their recent upturn in fortunes at Eaton Park.

Mary's third league win on the trot owed much to the efforts from pack heavyweights Hugh Hogan and Conor McInerney.

A penalty try helped Ballymena get back on terms but a pushover effort, credited to Leinster prop Juan Gomez, had Mary's 17-10 in front at half-time.

Further tries from scrum half Matt D'Arcy and hooker Matt Crockett put the result beyond doubt.

The result of the day came at Eaton Park where Ballymena, who were victorious in their previous four outings, lost 34-22 to a fired-up St. Mary's College.

Surprise winners over Shannon last weekend, Mary's were good value for this northern raid with Lynch a constant influence.

Ballymena made the better start and they oozed the confidence built up from their recent shut-outs of UCD, Greystones and Lansdowne.

Scrum half Craig Woods opened the scoring for the home side with an early penalty and although a controversial penalty try, which was awarded after Mary's were ruled to have disrupted three successive scrums, had Ballymena level at 10-10, Mary's had the better of a 30-minute spell either side of the break.

Lynch dummied and went over under the posts for his try, midway through the first half, and the Dubliners led 17-10 at half-time with Argentinian Gomez, playing his third game for the club, also scoring off a pushover drive.

The visitors lost replacement Fergus O'Sullivan to the sin bin in the second half but they ran out comfortable winners in the end with D'Arcy's breakaway try, which saw him cover three-quarters of the pitch, and a forward rumble, that led to Crockett touching down, putting them 34-10 in front.

The home side lost influential centre Rhys Botha to a hamstring injury as he tried to chase down D'Arcy for his try and their play became error-strewn as they opted to run the ball from everywhere.

Ballymena did hit back with two late tries - prop Simon Shawe muscled over and recent signing Hugh Mitchell also crossed - but there was no denying Mary's their 11th win in 16 league meetings with the Braidmen.
