A huge win for Derry City did wonders for their goal difference, but it's still Shamrock Rovers sitting top of the table after the Dubliners also got a home win.

At the Brandywell, the Candystripes were ruthless in their pursuit of goals as they welcomed relegated UCD.

Danny Mullen got Derry's charge underway in the fifth minute, with Will Patching and Cameron McJannet made it 3-0. Brandon Kavanagh, Michael Duffy and Jamie Mconigle each found the net in turn, leaving it 6-0 by the final whistle.

In Tallaght, one goal was all Shamrock Rovers needed to get a results against Shelbourne, and Graham Burke happily supplied in the 72nd minute.

Meanwhile, there was 3-1 wins for both Dundalk and Bohemians, who hosted Drogheda United and Sligo Rovers respectively.

In the evening's final game, St Patrick's Athletic got the only away win of the day, as Mark Doyle's second-half strike saw his side best Cork City at Turners Cross.
