Christy Ring Cup round-up

Roscommon 0-12 Wicklow 3-21

Roscommon 0-12 Wicklow 3-21

Midfielder Jonathan O'Neill was a constant thorn in the Roscommon defence, as the Wicklow man gave an impressive display to ensure an 18-point win for his side at Athleague.

Leading by 1-10 to 0-05 at half-time thanks to a Timmy Collins goal, Wicklow also had some strong displays from Eamon Furlong and Don Hyland.

Indeed Rathnew's Hyland gave an excellent display, having returned to the Wicklow squad last week.

Despite Mervyn Connaughton trying hard for Roscommon, nothing could halt an eager Wicklow side who added a brace of second half goals.

Mayo 0-18 Kerry 0-15

Mayo pulled off a shock three-point win at Castlebar against a Kerry team that finished with 14 men following the dismissal of Michael Conway through a second yellow card.

Free-taker Adrian Freeman was magnificent for Mayo in this game and scored half of his side's final tally.

Keith Higgins gave a solid performance in Mayo's defence, but was also on hand in attack as the dual player scored a vital point which ensured his side led by the minimum late on.

Mayo were not to be denied with a late brace from Freeman copper-fastening the win.

Derry 4-14 Armagh 5-06

The hurlers of Armagh and Derry produced a goal-fest at Celtic Park, before the hosts prevailed by five points.

Amazingly Derry rushed into a 2-07 to 0-01 led after 31 minutes, with Ruairi Convery and Sam Dodds the goal-scorers.

However, five goals in a 15-minute spell either side of the interval powered Armagh in front with John Corvan (2-00), Fiachra Quinn, Cathal Carville and Ger Enright each finding the hosts' net.

But Derry were not to be denied as late goals from Mark Craig and Paddy Henry ensured an Oak Leaf success.

London 2-08 Down 1-25

The introduction of substitute Gareth Johnson proved to be the turning point as Down recorded a 14-point win over London at Ruislip.

Johnson was only on the field for five minutes but contributed 1-02 as the Mourne men powered away in the closing stages.

A Mark Mythen goal for the hosts before the interval ensured just two points separated the sides - 0-11 to 1-06.

An early second half goal from Ian Walsh gave London a lifeline, but Down dug deep defensively to carve out the win.
