Derry unchanged for third round qualifier

Derry will field an unchanged team for tomorrow night's All-Ireland SFC third round qualifier against Laois (Breffni Park, throw-in 7pm).

Manager Paddy Crozier has decided to keep faith with the side that beat Mayo by 2-13 to 1-6 two weeks ago, meaning the Oak Leafers will start with the same 14 outfield players for the third successive match.

Goalkeeper Shane O'Kane was in place for the qualifier win over Armagh, but Barry Gillis returned in goal against Mayo and has held onto his spot for this weekend's trip to Cavan.

Defender Michael McGoldrick will start despite only participating in light training this week. He sustained a hamstring injury when playing for Bellaghy in a club game last weekend but is rated fit enough to retain his starting place.

Wing-forward Barry McGoldrick, who had to have stitches inserted in a finger injury, is also included.

Tomorrow's tie is the third qualifier meeting between Derry and Laois in the past six years. The counties have one win apiece - Derry were 1-8 to 0-8 victors in 2001, while two years ago Laois came out on top courtesy of a 1-11 to 0-11 win.

Having beaten both the 2006 Ulster and Connacht champions in previous rounds, Derry are favoured to win at Breffni Park and reach the All-Ireland quarter-finals, via the qualifiers, for the third time. They were All-Ireland semi-finalists in both 2001 and 2004.

DERRY (SFC v Laois) - B Gillis; M McGoldrick, K McCloy, G O'Kane; L Hinphey, SM Lockhart, F McEldowney; F Doherty, J Conway; B McGoldrick, P Murphy, E Muldoon; C Devlin, P Bradley, C Gilligan.
