Birmingham co-owner David Sullivan has criticised Steve Bruce’s goal-shy strikers and described his team’s start to the season as a “major, major disappointment”.
Manager Bruce’s team have won just once in the Barclays Premiership this season, at West Brom in August, and after nine matches find themselves in the relegation zone.
Emile Heskey has scored only twice this season, and Walter Pandiani once, but Mikael Forssell is without a goal and Sullivan is concerned a relegation battle may lie ahead.
“It’s obvious there is something wrong with our three strikers because they are not scoring,” Sullivan told The Sun.
“Nicky Butt is our top-paid player. But he’s been suspended for four games for stupidly getting himself sent off (against Portsmouth). It’s all very worrying.”
Form at St Andrews has been dire, with Birmingham taking just one point from their five home matches so far, and Sunday’s derby defeat to Aston Villa left Sullivan exasperated.
“Since then, I’ve been on the floor feeling utterly depressed and gutted,” he said. “Every alarm bell is ringing at the moment.”
Midfielder Stephen Clemence is set to be out for three weeks with a calf injury sustained in the defeat by Villa.
