Bomb left outside house of policing body member
A viable bomb was left outside the home of an independent member of a local policing body in the North, police said today.
The device was left outside the Laurel Drive home of Strabane District Policing Partnership member Arthur McGarrigle in Strabane, Co Tyrone.
It was the third alert in the Strabane area over the past four days.
The home of former DPP member Mary McCrea in nearby Sion Mills was targeted on Monday.
On Sunday another device was defused at a house in Sion Mills.
An Army bomb disposal team discovered the device outside Mr McGarrigle's home after reports from people in the area about a number of youths acting suspiciously.
After a forensic examination of the items recovered at the scene, Chief Inspector Phil Marks confirmed the device was viable.
The area commander said there was also no doubt the device had the capacity to cause death or serious injury.
