Brogan was sent-off in the seventh minute for an off-the-ball incident involving Galway defender Johnny Duane. He has been hit with a four-week ban for 'attempted striking.'

Cameras failed to pick up the incident, which some observers felt was a punch and others just a push, so with no video evidence available to them Dublin will not be launching an appeal.

Bernard Brogan knows what it would have meant to his older brother to play in Dublin's first Division 1 decider since 1999.

"He's hugely disappointed. The whole family is. It was a bit of a nothing incident," admitted the reigning Footballer of the Year at an Xbox Kinect launch in Dublin.

"Alan's been waiting 10 years to play in a league final. Hopefully, we can go out there and bring it back for him.

"As everybody knows, his discipline record is immaculate. It's hugely disappointing. We were already in the final."

Eoghan O'Gara's suspension runs out before the final, so he looks set to be added to the Dublin attack to face defending champions Cork.
