Wilko looks to have an outstanding chance of landing a double when lining up for the Stan James Stakes at Newbury tomorrow afternoon.
Jeremy Noseda’s charge has come up against some of the best juveniles around this term in Dubawi and Sharmardal, and posted a smart success when dropped in grade on his latest outing.
That was in a modest event at Yarmouth and while he steps back up to Listed company tomorrow, the son of Awesome Again looks to have the seven-furlong event as his for the taking.
Also at the Berkshire track, Instant Recall looks to have a good chance to get his first win on turf in the stanjamescasino.co.uk Handicap.
Brian Meehan’s colt is a consistent sort and has been kept busy this season, winning two races on Lingfield’s Polytrack.
The three-year-old has produced some decent form on turf for the Lambourn handler, too, most recently finishing a close fourth to Commando Scott in a six-furlong handicap at Doncaster.
Instant Recall can build on that performance over the same distance at his local track.
At Newmarket, Solar Power has a chance to shine in the seven-furlong Newmarket Nights Fillies’ Rated Stakes.
The James Fanshawe-trained three-year-old came up against a decent type last month in Michael Stoute’s Peeress, who beat her by three lengths over course and distance.
Peeress subsequently ran well in a good handicap at Goodwood, so Fanshawe’s filly, not out of the first four in all her five starts, could take some beating.
Earlier on the card at the July course, Polar Impact should run well in the six-furlong Vibe FM Handicap.
Gary Moore’s five-year-old notched up three victories in Spain over the winter and has maintained that form during the summer, winning at Windsor in June.
The horse finished a close fourth to the remarkable Jonny Ebeneezer at Sandown last time, and should not have to worry about such an in-form rival this time.
At Catterick, Roxanne Mill will take all the beating when dropping down in class for the Simon Bailes Peugeot Claiming Stakes.
This front-running mare was a well-backed winner of a similar contest over course and distance in June for Milton Bradley before being claimed by current trainer Paul Blockley.
Roxanne Mill most recently finished a close second to Baron Rhodes in a Class D event at Hamilton at the end of last month and is the clear pick on official ratings for this lowlier contest.
