Mayo end Tyrone's unbeaten run - NFL Div 1A round-up

Tyrone 1-11 Mayo 0-16, Omagh

Tyrone 1-11 Mayo 0-16

Magical Mayo ended Tyrone's 100% start to the NFL Division 1A campaign, hitting eight points in either half to secure a 0-16 to 1-11 defeat of the 2003 champions.

Mickey Harte's men - who began with a new midfield partnership of Sean Cavanagh and Colin Holmes - showed the form of their first four league wins in the opening stages.

They raced five points clear by the tenth minute. Three Conor Mortimer points and a brilliant save from a Cavanagh shot by goalkeeper David Clarke - together with overs from Alan Dillon and Peadar Gardiner - gave the visitors an 0-08 to 0-07 half-time lead.

They continued their rampaging form on the restart as Tyrone waited until the 61st-minute before raising their first white flag of the second half through Stephen O'Neill.

He further reduced the deficit and Martin Penrose's late goal left four points between the sides with little over two minutes remaining. O'Neill tagged on two more points but it was too little, too late for the home side.

Six yellow cards were split between the sides - with Mayo losing Gary Mullins, Aidan Kilcoyne and Alan Dillon while Tyrone were forced to do without Chris Lawn, Davey Harte and Shane Sweeney.

Now unbeaten in four games, John Maughan's Mayo have not lost since an opening night defeat at the hands of Dublin.
