Domestic flights resumed at one of Indonesia’s busiest airports today after a fire destroyed the terminal and left one person injured.

Polonia Airport in Medan, the regional capital of Sumatra island, handles about 4.5 million passengers a year.

The cause of the fire, which broke out late yesterday, was believed to be a short circuit. Forensic teams were investigating.

Today, tents were set up for check-in and boarding and domestic flights were running with delays from the international terminal and a nearby air force base.

Air travel is a major form of domestic transport in Indonesia, a sprawling nation of 235 million people spread over 17,500 tropical islands.
