Wolves boss Mick McCarthy claimed his West Brom counterpart Tony Mowbray is "a very fortunate young man" to inherit the current crop of players at The Hawthorns after his side were beaten 3-0 in the Black Country derby.
Goals from Jonathan Greening, Diomansy Kamara and a John Hartson penalty enabled the Baggies to move within one point of second-placed Preston in the Coca-Cola Championship.
It was a fourth successive win for Albion, who in the process have scored 14 goals and are looking genuine contenders to make a quickfire return to the Barclays Premiership.
West Brom were flattered by the final score after an improved second half performance from their local rivals.
But McCarthy conceded: "That's one of the best teams, if not the best team we have played against.
"I think Tony is a very fortunate young man to have inherited that squad of players in third place in the Championship.
"Good luck to him. We haven't played a team that has been better than that and that includes the leaders Cardiff.
"You normally get a job when you are third bottom, not third top of a division, but good luck to Tony.
"He has done his shift up at Hibernian and deserves this opportunity. He has got a good group of players to work with."
Wolves were on the back foot after Greening's powerful 20-yard strike and Kamara's sixth goal in four appearances since recovering from a broken metatarsal put the home side in control.
Mowbray is not anticipating making major changes as the post-Bryan Robson era gets under way but is hoping the way the Baggies are performing will send out a message to the rest of the division.
He said: "I'm not going in with a big sledgehammer to change things but to pick on little things which we think can help individuals improve.
"But the rest of the Championship will look at the results over the last month or so and think 'West Brom aren't bad' and I would suggest we are a decent football side.
"We've just got to keep that going. It helps confidence to score goals although I thought the foundations of the victory were built on the back four who were outstanding.
"Diomansy Kamara and Nathan Ellington are a real threat up front and we've got real creativity in the wide areas of the pitch with Jason Koumas and Zoltan Gera.
"With the back four platform, it is not a bad team we have got out there at the moment. The back four gave the rest of the team the licence to go and score goals."
