A bitter feud stretching back over a year was tonight believed to be behind the shooting of a teenager.

The 18-year-old was sitting in a car in Limerick late last night when he was targeted.

In the past year two men have been shot dead in the city - both believed to be linked with the latest violence.

The teenager was in the passenger seat of the car at the entrance to the Pineview Gardens - Delmege Park area of Moyross when at least three shots were fired at him.

Gardaí said he was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital where his condition was now reported to be stable.

The female driver of the car escaped injury in the incident at around 8.45pm last night.

A technical examination of the scene of the shooting has been completed and the vehicle removed for examination.

Gardaí investigating the shooting said it was part of the long-running feud in Moyross.

In May last year another teenager, 19-year-old Aidan Kelly from College Avenue in Moyross was shot dead at Blackwater, Co Clare.

Earlier this year 34-year-old Noel Campion was ambushed in broad daylight and shot as he travelled on the pillion seat of a motorbike in the Thomondgate area of Limerick city.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Dublin were investigating a gun attack on a house early today.

At least one shot from a shotgun was fired at the front door of the house at Moorefield Avenue, Clondalkin.

There were two people, a man and woman in their 20's, in the house at the time of the attack. Neither was wounded.
