LRC chairs talks aimed at averting UCD strike action

The Labour Relations Commission is due to chair talks this afternoon aimed at averting industrial action at University College Dublin.

The Labour Relations Commission is due to chair talks this afternoon aimed at averting industrial action at University College Dublin.

SIPTU has accused management at the university of denying pension entitlements to many of its workers by keeping them on fixed-term contracts for years on end.

The union says a number of UCD employees have been on such contracts for more than 25 years, despite the fact that there is a clear need for permanent positions.

The workers have voted to engage in strike action next Monday if the situation is not resolved by then.
