A 2km perimeter around the site of the K Club will come into effect this evening in preparation for the upcoming Ryder Cup.

Practice days kick off on Tuesday, with the tournament running from Friday until Sunday.

The event is expected to attract up to 40,000 people each match day.

Mayor of Kildare Fionnuala Dukes thinks it's a fantastic opportunity for Ireland.

“I mean it’s a showcase on the world.” she said. “It’s very difficult to quantify what it will do for Ireland. But we do hope there will be a very good spin off when the Ryder Cup is over as regards tourism.”

She went onto condemn anybody who was trying to cash in unfairly on the event.

“I would condemn anybody trying to rip off people for this event,” she said. “It’s very counterproductive - killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

“And I would urge people to be moderate in their charges. But it’s inevitable that it will be treated as a high season event as opposed to a low season one. That’s inevitable.”
