Trimble believes he will survive

The North's First Minister David Trimble said he is confident of retaining the leadership of the Ulster Unionist Party despite his party's poor performance in the recent elections.

The North's First Minister David Trimble said he is confident of retaining the leadership of the Ulster Unionist Party despite his party's poor performance in the recent elections.

Mr Trimble made his comments ahead of a meeting with the British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

He also played down speculation that his position was under threat.
