Waterford paper appoints new CEO

Wexford Echo group manager Murry McDonald has been appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Waterford News & Star and Wexford Echo.

Wexford Echo group manager Murry McDonald has been appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Waterford News & Star and Wexford Echo.

He will take on the CEO role in Waterford in addition to his current role managing the Wexford Echo group of newspapers.

The successful relaunch of the Waterford News & Star in 2007 saw the newspaper win two European Newspaper Awards of Excellence at the recent European Newspaper Design Awards in Vienna.

TCH regional director Tom Geoghegan said: “Murry McDonald has a track record of achievement at our Wexford titles and we are very pleased to have someone of Murry’s calibre in charge of the Waterford News & Star at this important time in its development.”

Thomas Crosbie Holdings Limited now comprises 18 newspapers; Irish Examiner, Evening Echo, Waterford News & Star, Western People, Sligo Weekender, The Kingdom, Newry Democrat, Down Democrat, Nationalist and Leinster Times, Kildare Nationalist, Laois Nationalist, The Sunday Business Post, Roscommon Herald, Enniscorthy Echo, New Ross Echo, Gorey Echo, Wexford Echo and The Irish Post.

TCH’s electronic media division Thomas Crosbie Media (TCM) comprises Breakingnews.ie, Motornet.ie and RecruitIreland.com.

Thomas Crosbie Holdings has a 75% shareholding in WLR FM and BEAT 102-103 FM.

It also has a 36% shareholding in Red FM in Cork, 22.5% in 4FM and a 17.5% shareholding in Mid West radio in Mayo.
