Steve Bruce has pledged his future to Birmingham and insisted he is not ready to quit and become a television pundit.
Bruce is upset that a throwaway line in a recent magazine interview has been interpreted as him being ready to walk away from the managerial hotseat at St Andrews.
Bruce had joked: “If I’m not any good this time, then I’ll sit with Mr Schmeichel in the television studio!”
But he is adamant he has a long-term job at Birmingham with the priority to correct a poor start to the current campaign.
Bruce told the Birmingham Evening Mail: “Let me make it clear, I intend to see through this job at Birmingham.
“I made a reference to something in a magazine article and that has been misinterpreted.
“There is no question of me quitting for television and it’s rubbish to suggest that.
“After the way the season has started, I’ve got a challenge ahead of me and I’m determined to meet that challenge.
“Being a manager is tough. It does test you and after everything that’s happened last season I was hoping things might be a little bit better.
“We’ve not started well but it’s my job to put things right and that’s what I intend to do.”
Bruce, who signed a new five year deal 12 months ago, retains the full backing of the Birmingham board.
Chairman David Gold and managing director Karren Brady both made a point of visiting him in his office immediately after the Middlesbrough defeat in midweek to offer their support.
