Bob Geldof is to become a new independent advisor for the British Conservative party on global poverty.
He will act as an independent consultant to a new Conservative policy group and could help them to reach out to the so-called wristband generation.
The rock star turned campaigner famously clashed with Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s about VAT on the Band Aid single.
He played a leading role in the Make Poverty History campaign in the run up to the G8 summit last July.
