Rugby: Australia tour placed in doubt

Australia's tour of England, Wales and France has been put into doubt by the military attacks on Afghanistan.

Australia's tour of England, Wales and France has been put into doubt by the military attacks on Afghanistan.

Australian rugby chiefs are to monitor world events "on a daily basis" before the 30-man squad arrives in London on October 21 for a five-week trip.

The overnight strikes on Afghanistan have sparked a cautious response from Australian Rugby Union managing director John O'Neill.

"In the light of events overnight, we are obviously concerned," he said.

"The government has indicated that we proceed with our preparations, but continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis, and that is what we will do."

The Wallabies are currently at their training base on the New South Wales coast, where they will take part in a week-long camp before departure.

They begin the seven-match trip against a National Divisions XV in Leicester, Britain on October 29, before tackling Spain in Madrid, Oxford University, England (November 10), France in Marseilles, then Wales and finally the Barbarians, both at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

Their Twickenham date is already a sell-out, with both Millennium Stadium fixtures likely to follow suit.
