Rossi set for first Magpies start

Newcastle will hand a first start to their on-loan striker Giuseppe Rossi for tomorrow’s Carling Cup tie with Portsmouth at St James’ Park.

Newcastle will hand a first start to their on-loan striker Giuseppe Rossi for tomorrow’s Carling Cup tie with Portsmouth at St James’ Park.

The Manchester United striker has had four substitute appearances for Newcastle but is set to start tomorrow.

Celestine Babayaro is also in Newcastle’s starting line-up following his three-match ban and groin injury but both Emre and Antoine Sibierski are out through injury.

Kieron Dyer is not involved but Newcastle hope to have him back for Saturday’s Barclays Premiership game with Charlton.

Provisional squad: Harper, Carr, Babayaro, Ramage, Taylor, Bramble, Moore, Solano, Parker, N’Zogbia, Butt, Duff, Milner, Martins, Ameobi, Rossi, Luque, Srnicek, Krul.
