Hollywood legend Seán Connery was yesterday described as having the sexiest voice of all time in a new survey.
The 71-year-old actor came out top of a poll conducted by the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB) to discover which famous person had the most tasteful tones.
The Scot pulled 23% of votes in the survey carried out to help the launch of RNIB’s new digital Talking Book Service.
The former James Bond actor was voted top by a huge majority - his closest rival was current heart-throb actor George Clooney with 9%, followed by the late movie icon Richard Burton.
Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley has the most popular woman’s voice, polling 8% of the votes.
She was closely followed by Melinda Messenger, Mariella Frostrup and Honor Blackman, who starred as Pussy Galore with Connery in the classic Bond movie Goldfinger.
Commenting on the accolade, Lumley said: ‘‘I’m speechless, flattered, thrilled and delighted.’’
She also told researchers that she believed Edinburgh-born Connery had the sexiest voice.
Lumley has recorded a number of RNIB talking books, including her autobiography Stare Back and Smile.
She added: ‘‘It means a great deal to me knowing that blind people can listen to my books.’’
RNIB’s Talking Book Service includes more than 12,000 titles - the largest collection of such books in Britain.
The survey was launched as part of the organisation’s Right to Read Week, which runs from May 27 to June 2.
