A two-year-old girl found unresponsive by gardai in County Waterford on Wednesday evening has died following a tragic accident.

Gardaí responded to a call in relation to the little girl found unresponsive in her home in the Dungarvan area of the county.

The child was rushed by emergency services to University Hospital Waterford (UHW) where she was later pronounced dead.

A file is to be prepared for the Coroner's Court.

A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to provide support and assistance to the family.

Gardai have confirmed they are treating this incident as a “tragic accident”.

In a statement gardai added: "Gardaí in Waterford responded to a call on Wednesday evening, 5th June, in relation to a child found unresponsive in her home in Co Waterford.

“The child was conveyed by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford where she was later pronounced deceased.

“A file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court. A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to provide support and assistance to the family of the deceased at this time”.
