Students at a Co Kilkenny primary school had to be evacuated after the river Nore burst its banks due to a deluge of rain.

Fire service assisted students to leave St Colmcille's National School due to rising water levels.

A spokesperson for St Colmcille’s said that “everyone is fine” and that all the students had gone home. “The fire services are here helping us out thankfully but everyone is fine,” the spokesperson added.

Further up river Thomastown has currently recorded more than 30mm of rainfall while the village of Glenmore is under threat by rising water from the river Barrow.

Motorists are being urged to drive with caution following extensive flooding in Ferrybank located on the Waterford/Kilkenny border.

Waterford based fire crews and Waterford City and County Council’s ground staff are dealing with several sites where flooding and extensive surface water has occurred.

The Council is advising the public to exercise caution as driving conditions may be hazardous, with further surface water flooding expected.

Road warnings have been issued for updates, with the L4076 closed at Fairybush/Woodstown. Flooding has also occurred on the Dunmore Road at Hickeys Cross, and in Ferrybank at Rockshire Road.

There is surface water on Cork Road at RSC, Lisduggan, and at Morris’ DIY. Kilkenny County Council are tending to flooding on the N25 at Rhu Glenn, Slieverue. The Abbey Road in Ferrybank is also currently closed to traffic due to a burst main.

Ferrybank Post Office has also been forced to close due to flooding.
