A man has been charged by gardaí in connection to the shooting incident in a restaurant in Blanchardstown which led to a fatal assault.

Michael Andrecut, 22, with an address at Sheephill Avenue, Corduff, appeared at a special sitting of the Criminal Courts of Justice on Saturday morning.

Detective Garda Mark Murphy told the court that the accused was arrested at 11.42pm on Friday night and charged at 11.47pm at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

Mr Murphy said Andrecut made no reply to the charge.

The incident unfolded inside a restaurant filled with customers, including families out for Christmas Eve celebrations.

A man in his 40s was also injured when he received gunshot wounds in the incident.

Gardaí stepped up uniformed patrols in the capital on Christmas Day and the following days amid fears of reprisal attacks
