An elderly woman has died after she was struck by a vehicle in Co Clare on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred shortly before 9am near the woman’s home at Knockaveen, near Scarriff, in the east of the county.

The pedestrian, a woman aged in her 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene and her body has since been taken to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

Gardaí confirmed there were no other injuries reported.

National Ambulance Service paramedics, units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Scarriff station, and Gardaí responded to the incident.

The L8050 at Knockaveen has been closed to traffic pending the completion of a technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was travelling in the area between 8.45am and 9.15am to contact Scarriff Garda station on 061-922 790, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666 111, or any Garda station.
