The Minister for Education has announced that an improved pupil-teacher ratio will be instigated in the 100 secondary schools of greatest need in the country.

The Minister for Education has announced that an improved pupil-teacher ratio will be instigated in the 100 secondary schools of greatest need in the country.

Speaking at the annual congress of the Teachers Union of Ireland in Cork, Dr Michael Woods said schools will be invited to apply for the scheme under clearly defined criteria.

He also told the TUI that talks will begin with the union at the end of school year to discuss the pensionability of supervision and substitution.
