In very icy conditions, Brendan Crealey in his works backed Mitsubishi heads the Irish challenge in the Rallye Sunseeker, the opening round of the Kumho National Rally Championship.
Many drivers found the conditions very difficult including champion, David Mann and Andy Burton, who are both well outside the top 20.
Crealey (Mitsubishi) was up as high as third at one point this morning and after special stage 10, he is seventh; Stephen Harron (Subaru) is 11th; Rory Galligan (Mitsubishi), the inaugural winner of the Billy Coleman award, is 13th.
Others in the top 20 include Ollie O’Donovan. Even though he is experiencing problems with his Subaru stalling at the junctions, he’s in 17th place.
Roy White (Mitsubishi), the Clonmel ace, is 22nd.
The rally is being led by the Toyota Corolla WRC of four-time winner, Marcus Dodd, who is some 20 seconds ahead of the Hyundai of Craig Middleton with the Subaru of Roger Duckworth third – 0.1 of a second behind.
The Hyundai of Steve Petch is fourth.
In the Peugeot 206 Super Cup, Dubliner, Gareth MacHale leads the category, he is 3.9 seconds ahead of Andy Gwynne. Rodney Wilton is 17th.
