Sinnott and Dennehy battle it out

Recounts are underway in two Cork constituencies.

Recounts are underway in two Cork constituencies.

In Cork South Central only three votes separate hopeful candidates Kathy Sinnott and John Dennehy.

Sinnott had originally beaten Dennehy by three votes for the final seat in a dramatic early morning count.

Elsewhere it looks like FF will be one or two seats short of an overall majority.

The party has surged in the polls, while FG has haemorrhaged votes across the country.

Meanwhile, the smaller parties have made solid gains.
