The Government’s subsidies on medicine costs are reportedly among the lowest in Europe.
Under the Drug Payment Scheme, all Irish people need only spend a maximum of €78 a month on medicines, with the Government refunding any surplus.
Reports this morning said a study conducted by the National Centre for Pharmaeconomics in Dublin's St James’s Hospital had found that this €78 limit was among the highest in Europe.
The study found that the majority of citizens in France, Italy and the Netherlands received all their medication for free.
