Motorola set to confirm 330 job losses at Cork plant

Motorola is expected to confirm more than 300 job losses today at its factory in the Blackrock area of Cork.

Motorola is expected to confirm more than 300 job losses today at its factory in the Blackrock area of Cork.

The company announced earlier this year that it was entering into a consultation process with staff about the future of the facility.

It is expected to confirm today that the plant will close at the end of May, with 330 of its 350 employees being made redundant.

The news comes as a further blow to the Munster region following the loss of 560 jobs at three other factories earlier this week.

On Tuesday, Thomson Scientific in Limerick announced moves to lay off 200 staff, while the following day, Procter and Gamble in Co Tipperary said it would be shedding 280 jobs.

Bourns Electronics in Cork also announced plans to cut 80 jobs on the same day.
