Chartered plane to take Irish out of Lebanon

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern today ordered the chartering of a plane to evacuate the remaining Irish living in the Lebanon.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern today ordered the chartering of a plane to evacuate the remaining Irish living in the Lebanon.

A spokesperson said: “Sixty Irish citizens had already signed up to the evacuation which will take place on Monday morning but it was estimated there were around 100 in total in the country.

“A special plane has been chartered to fly them out of Latakia in Syria at 8am on Monday morning,” he said. “That will go directly to Dublin on Monday morning.”

It is expected that those who will fly home will leave the Lebanon tomorrow to get to Latakia.

The 15 people who were flown to Cyprus today also went from Latakia.
