The ISEQ index of Irish shares was valued at 2,644.60 at 11am this morning.

The ISEQ index of Irish shares was valued at 2,644.60 at 11am this morning.

This represented an increase of 54.34 points, or 2.1%.

It was a mixed morning for the banks. AIB and Bank of Ireland were both down, 3c and 6c to €1.14 and €1.27 respectively, but Irish Life & Permanent gained 9c to €2.54.

Elsewhere, big risers outweighed big fallers, with DCC, dropping 29c to €13.85, the only company to make any noticeable loss.

Elan enjoyed a very good morning, up 36c to €5.20, while Tullow Oil added 20c to €10.30.

Abbey rose 15c to €4.65 and CRH gained 64c to €17.71.
