Modernise Education system, says Greens

The Green Party have called on the government to modernise the Department of Education’s methods in assessing staff needs in schools.

The Green Party have called on the government to modernise the Department of Education’s methods in assessing staff needs in schools.

The procedure to date has been hand-written and involved a staffing schedule being compiled around the numbers of pupils enrolled.

The leader of the Green Party Trevor Sargent now wants a more up to date system that uses electronic compiled staffing assessments.

Mr. Sargent insists that if the Minister does not take action now, he will be unwittingly causing huge distress to parents, and pupils and teachers. The call comes after the Dail were last week debating the lack of capacity for new enrolments in certain Irish schools.
