Stephen Campbell set to represent Ireland at the International Blind Sports World Games in Brazil is to get an official send-off today.
Cookstown, Co Tyrone, swimmer Campbell will be the guest of honour at a special reception in Dublin to wish him well for next month’s World Games.
The 21-year-old, who lost his sight at the age of 16, is preparing to set off with his support team for the competition which runs from Aug 1 to 6.
Irish Blind Sports will today hold a ceremony at its Dublin headquarters to mark Stephen’s departure.
The Blind Sports World Games were created to promote the integration of visually impaired athletes across the world.
The cities of Sao Paulo and Sao Caetano do Sul in Brazil are gearing up to host 1,700 participants from 66 countries for the third event of its kind.
Athletes will compete in six sports including athletics, goalball, judo, swimming, powerlifting, and football.
Irish Blind Sports, founded in 1989, is the officially recognised national body with responsibility for organising sporting activities for blind and visually impaired people in Ireland.
