Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble today repeated his warning to withdraw his party from the power-sharing administration if the IRA does not begin destroying weapons.
Claiming the Provisionals broke promises given in May last year, he said: "The crisis will only be resolved by republicans fulfilling their obligations.
"A fresh promise to keep last year’s dishonoured promise will not suffice. In the absence of decommissioning there will be no progress and consequently no Ulster Unionist will be able to offer himself for election as First Minister."
Mr Trimble pledged to give careful consideration to the two Governments’ proposals for peace - launched earlier today - but insisted all other proposals were irrelevant in the absence of IRA disarmament.
Officers of the party’s ruling Ulster Unionist Council will meet to consider the UUP’s response on Monday evening, while MP’s and MLA’s will also be consulted, he added.
"The Ulster Unionist Party awaits the response of republicans," he said.
