Dream win for Fenton and Given

Wunders Dream led her rivals a merry dance in the hands of Michael Fenton in the Group Two Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster today, and she is all set for a trip to Longchamp next month.

She broke very smartly and defying the rest to catch her, she really had them on the stretch approaching the final furlong and stuck to her task well to pass the post with a length to spare over Revenue.

Her trainer James Given and Fenton were recording their second Pattern-race success of the meeting after scoring with Summitville on Thursday, and the former is now keen to let her take on the older speed merchants.

Given explained: "She is phenomenally quick and she is in the Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp (October 6) - her action suggests she wants quick ground and if she got it, then she is likely to go there."

Fenton would not be able to do the weight and Given went on: "With the weight allowances off the older horses she would be off fresh air, but Paul Hanagan rode her at Newbury and he knows her - and I think he would go on a starvation diet now to make sure he did the weight if he knew he was going to get the ride."

Michael Bell was pleased with Revenue, and said: "He may go for the Middle Park (Group One) and I think the step back up to six furlongs will suit him at Newmarket."

Ego is Newmarket bound too, having also earned a step up to Group One company when showing a sparkling turn of foot to see off her rivals in the GNER Conditions Stakes and give her jockey Ted Durcan his 50th success of the season in the process.

The Geoff Wragg-trained filly quickened impressively to lead approaching the final furlong, and she went away to beat the favourite Sarayat by one and three-quarter lengths.

Ego was bred by her owner Lady Tavistock who enthused: "From the moment she was born I thought she could be the best horse I have ever had - I think she is very special."

She is 25-1 with Paddy Power and 33-1 with Coral for the Sagitta 1000 Guineas, but she has a more immediate date, as Wragg explained: "When she won at Newmarket she settled it in three strides and did so in two this time.

"The plan was to go for the Cheveley Park if she was good enough and I think she has shown she is good enough today."

Vicious Warrior gained a dramatic last-gasp success under Dean McKeown in the ladbrokes.com Stakes, and he now heads for Newmarket for a crack at the Tote Cambridgeshire.

He has 7st 8lb plus a 5lb penalty and is a 25-1 chance with Coral for the first leg of the autumn double.

Trainer Richard Whitaker’s son Simon was full of praise for McKeown and said: “Dean give the horse some ride, they tried to tempt him to go up the inner where they would have shut him off but he had none of it.

"He was keen for us to run the horse in this race and he said in the parade ring that he was capable of winning a race like this."

Tony Culhane was seen to good effect too as he got Mick Channon’s Muchea home in front in the Porcelanosa Rated Stakes after which travelling head lad Andy Larkin said: "We have had this horse since he was two and we all love him at home."

Royal Cavalier, winner of the November Handicap last year, returned to Town Moor to take the Torne Valley Handicap in the hands of Graham Gibbons and he will be coming back for more.

Trainer Reg Hollinshead’s daughter Sarah said: "Royal Cavalier has been a great servant to us and my father will be particularly pleased again as he also bred him.

"And I am pretty sure that he will be coming back for the November Handicap."

Michael Hills was suspended for two days, (September 23 and 24), for irresponsible riding of a minor nature on the runner-up Solo Flight.
