The Minister for Education Batt O'Keeffe has dismissed speculation that the Junior Cert is to be scrapped.

The Minister for Education Batt O'Keeffe has dismissed speculation that the Junior Cert is to be scrapped.

It follows reports at the weekend that the Cabinet had already discussed abolishing the exam in the forthcoming Budget in an effort to save up to €30m a year.

Mr O'Keefe said the weekend reports are incorrect, but he has hinted that the format will change.
