Dublin City chief executive Ronan Seery has backed manager Roddy Collins’ decision to put 15 of his first-team squad on the transfer list.
Collins today told defenders Alan Keely, Wes Byrne, Ben Whelehan, Pierre Ennis and Chris Deans; midfielders Killian Brennan, Barry Burke, Jason Colwell, Keith Foy, Dave McGill and Ray Scully and strikers Robbie Collins, Robbie Farrell and Philip Hughes that their services were no longer required by the premier division’s bottom club.
Seery said: "I fully support Roddy as manager and the decisions he has to take to secure the future of this club. He has big plans for Dublin City and he was very honest with the players in letting them know his thinking.
“I'd like to place on record my own gratitude to the players for all their efforts on behalf of Dublin City FC and wish them every success wherever they go on to play.
“Many of them have given excellent service the club in our first division success last season and it will go down as a testimony as to their achievements here at the club."
With goakeeper Brendan Kennedy joining Kildare County and Keith Maher signing for Kilkenny City in the last week, and new signing Danny Boxall out injured indefinitely Collins has just 13 first-team players at his disposal: keepers Robbie Horgan and Barry Ryan, defenders Tony O'Connor, Thomas McGauley, Derek Griffin, Scott Friel and Ronnie Henry; midfielders Paul Crowley, Marc Kenny, Cathal O'Connor and Don Tierney; forwards Gary O'Neill and Peter Hynes.
Collins has promised new signings in the immediate future with a trip to Cork City on the horizon next Friday night.
