Racing: Haydock officials optimistic

Officials at Haydock are hoping conditions at the track will improve further ahead of Saturday’s Flat meeting.

Officials at Haydock are hoping conditions at the track will improve further ahead of Saturday’s Flat meeting.

The Merseyside course’s last meeting on March 30 was due to be a mixed fixture but officials were forced to change the four scheduled Flat races to jumps contests as the track was unraceable.

Clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright reports that the ground has dried up and he is keeping his fingers crossed for more improvement by Saturday.

He said: ‘‘We are now good to soft with a few heavy places. We are forecast a drying week so hopefully the heavy places will improve.

‘‘Obviously we are in the hands of the weather but things look to be going the right way.’’
