Man City's Petrov out for four months

Manchester City winger Martin Petrov is expected to be out for “three or four months” with a knee injury, manager Mark Hughes has revealed.

Hughes yesterday received a boost with the news Micah Richards’ ankle injury is not as bad as first feared – the right-back strained ligaments rather than suffering a break – but Bulgarian Petrov, who sustained the injury on international duty, will be out until February at the earliest.

The City boss told the club’s website, mcfc.co.uk: “Martin went to see a specialist on Monday and will fly out to see the guy that did his anterior cruciate ligament to have it re-checked.

“The news is that it’s not his ACL this time, he’s got a tear in his meniscus that will need to be repaired.

“Although it’s good news about the ACL it’s still a bad injury and he will probably be out for three or four months.”
