Cork expected to make one change

Cork manager Conor Counihan is set to make only one change to his side for Sunday's All-Ireland SFC semi-final clash with reigning champions Tyrone (Croke Park, throw-in 3.30pm).

Cork manager Conor Counihan is set to make only one change to his side for Sunday's All-Ireland SFC semi-final clash with reigning champions Tyrone (Croke Park, throw-in 3.30pm).

Injury concerns over midfielder Alan O'Connor and attacking ace James Masters have yielded mixed news, with O'Connor, who sat out training last week, back in contention for a starting berth and Masters reportedly struggling with a knee injury.

The Nemo Rangers clubman damaged his knee in an intense 'A' versus 'B' training match at Pairc Ui Chaoimh last Wednesday and eventually limped off the pitch on crutches.

Meanwhile, Anthony Lynch is expected to make his long-awaited return from a groin injury this weekend, replacing Kieran O'Connor in the Cork defence.

The Rebels squad went through a training programme last weekend in Inchydoney as their preparations intensify ahead of Sunday's game.

Lynch played a full role in the training weekend, which included sessions at the newly-opened, state-of-the-art training complex in nearby Clonakilty.

Conor Counihan will confirm his starting line-up for the showdown with Tyrone later tonight.

Meanwhile, Cork's in-form wing back John Miskella is looking forward to renewing acquaintances with his Tyrone 'friends'.

Miskella, Graham Canty and Pearse O'Neill got to know their Red Hand colleagues pretty well during last year's International Rules tour, with Canty rooming with Sean Cavanagh and O'Neill sharing accommodation with Justin McMahon.

"Tyrone have been the team of the year for the last few years. As a bunch of players they are a very good side but we know what to expect from them," said Miskella, who scored four points in the recent quarter-final defeat of Donegal.

"Graham and Pearse were rooming with two of the Tyrone lads and we got to know them very well. They are great craic off the pitch. We mingled well but their attitude on the pitch is what you marvel at.

"After winning an All-Ireland you could afford them to be a bit lax at that time, but certainly not. They worked extremely hard during the series and they are an impressive bunch of players.

"We have great respect for them off the pitch, and we'll have great respect for them on it as well. We have a big game to play and hopefully we can win it," he added.
