Gardai in Co Meath have revealed how they helped deliver a healthy baby girl early yesterday morning.

The expectant mother, from Ballivor, went into labour at around 2.30am and was brought to Trim Garda Station, where arrangements were made for an ambulance to take her to the Coombe Hospital.

On arrival at the station, the ambulance crew ascertained that the mother was in the advanced stages of labour and would need their full attention.

A Garda, therefore, drove the ambulance while the medical crew tended to the patient.

The lady eventually gave birth to a baby girl as the ambulance arrived in the car park at the Coombe. The parents, ambulance crew and Gardai involved said they were relieved and delighted at the happy outcome.
